Whole Lotta Rain!

It was a very hot and dry summer – until a few days ago!  The Ottawa-area is now experiencing record rainfall. There are reports of localized flooding, flash floods and large amounts of water pooling on the roads. This marks the fourth straight day of rain in the capital, and a rainfall warning was issued Wednesday morning by Environment Canada.  Here are the details:

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • Ottawa North – Kanata – Orléans
  • Ottawa South – Richmond – Metcalfe

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.Heavy rain will taper off towards noon. Rainfall amounts of 50 to 85 mm have been reported across parts of Eastern Ontario including Ottawa this morning. Total rainfall amounts will reach 100 mm in a few localities by noon today. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. (Environment Canada)
