Despite bad reviews, a Sony comic-book movie easily claimed top spot at the weekend box office. “Venom” made 80 million dollars, while Bradley Cooper’s “A Star Is Born” soared to 42.6 million.According to estimates, the two very different films fueled an unusually busy October weekend at the North American Box office. The news comes despite the fact “Venom” has been panned by the critics and received a 32 percent rating on “Rotten Tomatoes”.
In sharp contrast to that, Cooper’s “A Star is Born” remake, which also stars Lady Gaga, has been hailed by critics and pegged as a front-runner for the Academy Awards. The film drew an audience that was 66 percent female. 68 percent of the audience was age 35 and older. (The Canadian Press)
