In a rare television appearance, Queen Elizabeth has shared some memories from the day she was crowned nearly 65 years ago. In the BBC One special that will air on Sunday night, the Queen speaks candidly about her coronation and the “horrible” carriage ride that took her around London. The documentary features her royal highness in conversation with royal commentator Alastair Bruce. The special tells the story of how the Crown Jewels were hidden during the War, as well as the ceremony of crowning a new monarch.
At one point during their conversation, the Queen describes having to wear the crown and read a prepared statement without looking down. It’s a candid moment that you can watch in the preview below.
