Back in 2011, OC Transpo bus driver, Yves Roy, was told to stop singing after his supervisor said he had received a number of complaints. At the time, Yves told the Ottawa Citizen, “You can never please everybody. They had people who want peace and quiet, some say I scream, that I can’t keep a tune. But I have many commendations that came at the same time and lots of verbal compliments of people who tell me to keep it up, pat me on the shoulder, and tell me I made their day.”
Sadly, Yves Roy had to put the microphone away… Even the Mayor, Jim Watson got involved saying “If we allow a driver to start singing and entertaining, how do we say no to a passenger who wants to start tap-dancing or doing stand-up comedy.”
At the time, a Facebook campaign was launched, drawing the support of nearly 1,200 people who promised to croon in support of Roy’s singing!
If a recent post on Ottawa/Reddit is any indication… Yves (or one of his colleagues) might be back to his singing ways! According to one Reddit user, “I took the 6 from Rideau to Billings this morning and the driver was singing out loud the whole way, mostly classic songs from the 60s. He had a really great voice too. It was awesome!”
A comment from another Reddit user suggested that Yves might be “close to retirement” – hopefully on his own terms.
