As the saying goes “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade!” That was the case for a musician who became stranded in a snowstorm out west this week. When an early hit from Old Man Winter made him late, trumpet soloist Jens Lindemann decided to make music to soothe his fellow stranded motorists.
Lindemann was among hundreds of people stranded by Tuesday’s massive snowstorm on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Calgary. The Edmonton-born L-A resident was on his way from Banff to Calgary, where he was supposed to catch a flight to Vancouver for a concert. He missed his gig because he ended up stuck on the highway for more than 10 hours. To lighten up a frustrating situation, Lindemann retrieved his trumpet from the trunk and played some Dixieland tunes and “O Canada” — which drew cheers and horn-honks from other stranded motorists.
