Tom Hanks has played multiple real people throughout his career… Chesley Sullenberger in Sully, Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks, and Jim Lovell in Apollo 13, for example. Each time he has entertained audiences with his amazing talents, even drastically changing his appearance accordingly.
The versatile actor is now in negotiations to play Elvis Presley’s iconic manager Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s as-yet untitled biopic about the legendary musician. Baz Luhrmann will direct the movie. He also penned the script with Craig Pearce.
Colonel Tom Parker discovered Elvis Presley when he was still an unknown and quickly become his manager and lone representation. Tom Parker was responsible for various milestones, including Presley’s record deal with RCA and his successful acting career.
While Baz Luhrmann had always envisioned a ‘marquee’ star for Colonel Parker’s part, he wants a newcomer for the role of Elvis Presley. Insiders say a budget is still being ironed out, but with Tom Hanks’ likely on board, the studio is expected to push the project forward, with production beginning perhaps as early as this year.
