This One’s For The Birds

A mama bird has laid her eggs right where the main stage of Bluesfest is set to go up at Lebreton Flats, and time is quickly running out.  The stage is supposed to arrive today for setup and the hope of organizers is that the killdeer eggs will hatch very soon.  The issue is that the killdeer is a protected species.  Bluesfest executive director Mark Monahan says there’s an option to either move the eggs close-by or to remove them and incubate them with a third party somewhere here in Ottawa.  In the meantime, the cobblestone circle where the killdeer has laid her eggs is surrounded by yellow tape and a security guard has been hired by the NCC to watch over the site.  Ottawa Bluesfest gets underway July 5th and runs until the 15th.
