To Swim Or Not To Swim

It has not been a great summer for swimming at Ottawa-area beaches. The number of no-swim advisories has more than doubled in the last two years.  Since beach season began in the middle of June, 65 no-swim advisories have been issued by Ottawa Public Health because of higher than acceptable levels of E-coli in tested water samples. Not surprisingly, the flooding, heavy rains and continued high water levels are major factors affecting water quality at Britannia, Westboro, Mooney’s Bay, and Petrie Island Beaches. FYI, lifeguards will be on duty at public beaches until August 27th. (local files)
