It’s that time of the week where I support local and this week’s nod goes to our great Local Bookstores. Oh sure I do love my Chapters and Amazon but when I arrive in any new little town, first thing I tend to do is drag my husband, kicking and screaming into the locally owned bookstore 😉 Because yes they do exist still and I love every single moment of them because they’re local and I love to support local.
Recently when I was at the Ottawa Writer’s Festival taking in Erin Davis’ book launch for Mourning Has Broken, one of the three local ones in our area was on hand with Perfect Books on Elgin Street. The other two are Octopus Books on Third Avenue and Singing Pebble on Main Street and you should pay them a visit.
For starters, they’re local and it’s always a good idea to support local 🙂 Secondly, each bookstore offers its own unique kinda thing.
For instance, Singing Pebble has a dog to serve you…..his name is Bodhi and he’s pretty darn cute.
Over at Octopus Books, you will find a lady who is very involved in the community, supporting local authors and organizing 50 to 6o events per year.
And finally at Perfect Books, you will find another great place that is heavily involved in local events such as Versefest and as earlier mentioned, Ottawa Writer’s Festival.
Did I mention they have books and books and more books and are just all around great people so go say hi, grab a book and support local. It’s what I like to do and I might just see you there 🙂
