As you may have heard, Sunrise Records recently announced that it’ll be taking over the leases of 70 former HMV locations in malls across Canada… including the former HMV location at Place d’Orleans. HMV Canada was put into receivership earlier in the year. The remaining new Sunrise locations will be announced starting Monday, March 20th. Part of the expansion announcement includes a commitment from Sunrise to hire back former HMV employees.
In a related story, the owner of a record store in downtown Vancouver was surprised and thrilled by an unexpected visit from Sir Elton John! David Jones of Vinyl Records says he was impressed by Elton’s comfort navigating around the record bins. By the end of his 30-minute shopping spree, Elton had picked up an eclectic pile of records ranging from Kendrick Lamar to Nina Simone. The record store owner said it’s nice to see such a high-profile artist supporting the renaissance of vinyl music – no kidding! Elton John kicks off a world tour this weekend with two back-to-back shows in Victoria.
