Sidney Crosby & The Penguins Pitch In For Humboldt

Hockey superstar Sidney Crosby wanted to honor the victims and survivors of a bus crash that killed 15 players and staff members of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team, so the Pittsburgh Penguins captain had equipment manager Dana Heinze make a No. 18 Penguins jersey with “Broncos” on the nameplate. Each member of the Penguins autographed the number on the back of the jersey, which was then sent to the team in Humboldt, Saskatchewan.

Sidney Crosby also personalized photos for the survivors. He, his teammates and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation combined for a $20,000 donation to a GoFundMe account created to aid the victims’ families and the survivors.

Speaking of that GoFundMe account… more than 8 millions dollars has been raised so far for the victims of the fatal bus crash. More than 100,000 donors from 65 counties have contributed, making this particular GoFundMe campaign one of the 5 most successful ever on the platform.
