Shop Local, Read Local

In the past few months, I’ve had the great opportunity to have two local authors drop off their books for me to read and I finally got around to reading both of them.  Gosh when did life get so busy that one doesn’t find time to read a couple of books a weekend 😉

First book I had the pleasure of reading was from Barbara Avon and her book The Gift which she mailed off to me.  The story is based here in Ottawa and introduces you to restaurant owner Michael Rossi and the mysterious girl in the red coat.  The book takes you on a journey through great sounding food, winter weather we get here in the Nation’s Capital, photography, multiple visits to a cemetery and all the suspense thrown in for good measure with the ending making you wonder are we safe here in Ottawa 😉

All this also leads me to believe that Miss Avon will be adding more to this wonderful story 😉

Now if horror is more your thing, hand that honor over to Michel Weatherall with his book, The Symbiot which he dropped off at the station.   I noticed that some compare him to Stephen King but I have to say, he is better, at least to me.  I devoured the book in one sitting and it left me, the reader wanting more.  In that effect, I’m lucky as I know this is only part one of his trilogy and I can’t wait to  see where The Gibbons end up next and how.

Without giving too much away, it’s an interesting concept and will leave you listening to some pieces of music very differently or maybe that’s just me after reading Ian Thomas’ The Lost Chord just a few books previous 😉

If you are a avid reader like I am, find out more about these two great local authors Barbara Avon and Michel Weatherall, they will both leave you wanting more and right in our own backyard too, who knew 😉
