Sears Liquidation Sales Start Today

Dozens of Sears stores destined for closure begin liquidation sales today. The ailing retail giant is counting on shoppers to scoop up discounted merchandise as soon as possible so it can avoid bankruptcy. But despite the sales, one marketing professor says Sears is still trying to remain profitable. David Soberman from the University of Toronto says the company hopes to survive once its restructuring is complete. Stores slated for closure include ones in Brockville, Cornwall, Hull as well as the Sears Home Store on Innes road.  Others – like the locations at Carlingwood and St. Laurent – remain open for now.  (The Canadian Press, local files)
