Police keep trying to hammer the message home – don’t speed, speed kills. Many motorists just aren’t getting it though, as hundreds were nabbed for speeding over the long weekend. Ontario Provincial Police kept busy issuing a large number of speeding tickets, while they also dealt with a fatal crash on Highway 7 Monday afternoon. The driver of one vehicle was killed, the driver of the other was seriously injured after 2 vehicles collided on highway 7 near Silver Lake Provincial Park west of Perth around 4:30 p.m.
Meantime, the OPP safe driving blitz saw about 500 tickets issued Saturday, followed by another 990 speeding tickets on Sunday. Police also issued seven three-day license suspensions, 24 stunt driving offences, and 53 seatbelt violations. They nabbed 12 impaired drivers, and 47 motorists who failed to move over for emergency vehicles. (local files)
