Russia Banned, But Some Athletes May Compete, 2018 Winter Olympic Games

Russia will not be allowed to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

The decision was announced today by the International Olympic Committee.

However, Russian athletes who are considered “clean” can compete under a neutral flag at the Pyeongchang Games.

The Olympic Anthem will be played in any ceremony involving a Russian athlete.

Russia is alleged to have swapped at least 600 dirty urine samples for clean ones from 2010-2015.

Twenty-five Russian athletes who competed in the 2014 Sochi Games have received lifetime bans for doping. Russia has denied any state involvement.

“This was an unprecedented attack on the integrity of the Olympic Games and sport,” IOC President Thomas Bach said.
