What A Pro! Bette Midler Still Brings The House Down After A Coughing Fit

What a trouper! On Friday night, while singing one of the show stoppers in the Broadway smash “Hello Dolly!”, Bette Midler had a coughing fit which literally stopped the show! Being the consummate pro, she managed to ad-lib her way out of it. It happened at the culminating moment of Act 1 when Bette is expected to belt out the classic ‘Before the Parade Passes By’. She was able to quip to the crowd, “Wish me luck,” as she continued to cough. Her co-star, “Gavin Creel, raced onstage and handed Bette a much-welcome plastic cup of water. She then tried the song again, and aced it flawlessly. Her heroic performance brought the audience to its feet even before the number ended. “Hello Dolly” is still in previews. Opening night is this Thursday (April 20).
