Seems I avoid more calls than I take on our home phone these days. A never ending list of companies trying to sell me something, or telling me my computer is broken. Now, Ontario Provincial police are warning of another phone scam. It’s a nasty one, and I can attest to this as I received a call just the other day. This man claimed to be with an officer with the Canada Revenue Agency. He told me very aggressively that I owe back taxes and will be arrested if I don’t pay up. In the recording, he supplies a phone number to call and says I should do it urgently before I face the consequences. The OPP reminds people never to provide any personal or financial information over the phone, and that if you get one of these calls, you report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at www.antifraudcentre.ca.
