An early morning for Ottawa Fire crews in the east end. At 4:37 this a.m. Ottawa fire dispatch received a call about visible smoke and flames at Oziles Marina across from Petrie Island. Three boats docked in the water were found to be on fire when crews arrived on the scene. With the fire extinguished, there was one boat which sunk to the bottom and began leaking fuel. The Ottawa Fire Services Hazmat specialty team has been on scene controlling the flow of fuel with booms.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. The Ontario Environment Ministry has been contacted and a fire Investigator is on scene due to the nature of the call. (local files, news release)
