Robert Wagner has always been that guy that we all loved…..first in It Takes A Thief, then later in Switch and who can forget him as Mr Jonathon Hart in Hart To Hart. Robert Wagner has always been that charismatic guy with the smile that lights up a room when he enters it and captures every role with his own style and charm.
It’s no wonder in real life, he was also considered the ladies man with love interests along the way in the likes of Yvonne DeCarlo, Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Collins, Barbara Stanwyck and a few marriages thrown in, Jill St. John, Marion Marshall and twice to the late Natalie Wood.
It was the saddest news the day that Natalie Wood died with such a promising career ahead. Her body was found in the waters off Catalina Island in California after she, Robert Wagner and actor Christopher Walken boozed it up on a yacht on Thanksgiving weekend back in 1981. The death was ruled as accidental.
However in 2011, the investigation was re-opened and since then Wagner has refused to discuss the case but now he has named a “person of interest” in the case.
I remember the stories, I read his autobiography Pieces Of My Heart where he talks of his love for Natalie and what happened that night. Yes they fought, yes there was drinking but to his knowledge, he thought she was below deck and would have never thought she would have tried to get in the dinghy with her fear of water to leave him.
The case is 37 years old and Robert Wagner is 87 years old, will we ever find out the truth about that night, time will only tell. Personally I hope it remains accidental and that that charming and charismatic guy we all know and love, can remain as he is always.
