Ottawa’s Rich History Comes To Life During Beechwood Cemetery Walking Tour

The Annual Beechwood Cemetary Historical Walking Tour is happening this weekend – on Sunday, September 9th. Nick McCarthy, is Beechwood’s director of marketing, communications and community outreach. He says, “People are sometimes hesitant to come into cemeteries, and Beechwood’s annual historical walk allows them to experience their national cemetery in a way that’s accessible and open to everybody.”

The historical walking tour is Free to attend, and takes on a different theme each year. For 2018, a Back to the Future theme will spotlight Canadians from various decades whose lives span some nearly 200 years, starting in 1800 and ending in 1990. Participants will encounter a number of historical figures, brought to life by student actors, many of whom come from the Ottawa School of Theatre. This year’s walk, which starts at 2 PM, will feature six vignettes in total, with each one running about five to seven minutes.

Actors wear period costumes, and their dialogue is based on extensive research. Also accompanying the actors are musicians whose musical score reflects the time period of each historical figure.
