Ottawa’s Butterfly Child Passes Away

The teen who came to be known as Ottawa’s Butterfly Child has passed away.  An Ottawa Citizen report says 17 year old Jonathan Pitre of Russell died this week from septic shock complications.  Jonathan was admitted to hospital in Minneapolis Minnesota this past Friday after spiking another fever.  He had battled a skin infection that was resistant to antibiotics for the last three weeks.  Sadly, Jonathan’s condition continue to deteriorate and he died Wednesday evening.  By his side throughout his painful journey, Jonathan’s mother Tina Boileau is arranging to have her son’s body returned to Ottawa for a small private funeral.  Despite his significant health challenges, Jonathan found purpose in helping others with his blistering skin condition known as EB.  He made himself the face of the disease, shared his story with the world and raised a small fortune for the EB charity DEBRA Canada.
