Being a hockey fan since I was a little girl watching it with my Dad, you tend to get that jersey or t-shirt of the team or player you love most. That is a practice that has never grown old with me. You should see my collection but I think I should stop buying anything Ottawa Senator related 🙁
When I first moved here, I got #33 to support Jason York, my then fave Sen and lo and behold, he went and moved off to Nashville. Later it was Patrick Lalime who also left me so lets get Mike Fisher, nope off he went to Nashville too. The latest I felt safe with but no longer as #25 Chris Neil has parted ways with the Ottawa Senators as well so Sens fans you’ll be safe in knowing, I’m now done, I can’t stand the guilt.
In a move that isn’t a surprise after he played only a limited role under coach Guy Boucher last season, the Senators have informed the 37-year-old rugged right winger he won’t be back next season and, as a result, he’ll test the market as a unrestricted free agent on July 1 because Neil would like to play another year.
Though Neil and his wife Caitlin have built up strong roots in the community, he just isn’t ready to retire. The possibility of an off-ice role with the Senators in the organization has been discussed in the past and that may still be on the table even if Neil does sign elsewhere to play next season or if he can’t find a job next year.
