The new horror movie ‘A Quiet Place’ is making a loud noise with film fans after grossing $50m at the box office over its opening weekend. In case you’re not familiar with the premise, a family of four must get through an ordeal in total silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their very survival. If they hear you, they hunt you. Make a noise and die. It gives a whole new meaning to the concept of a ‘silent’ film!
‘A Quiet Place’ received a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and plenty of movie-goers have noted that watching it is unlike anything they’ve experience before. ‘A Quiet Place’ is so scary that people are afraid to eat their theatre food! The sound of munching on popcorn, candy wrappers, or slurping on their drinks has been conspicuously absent at screenings. Shhhhhhh!
One film-goer reported: “While we were leaving the theater, a food server dropped a metal tray on the ground. Everyone who had just seen the movie spun around and looked at the noise with genuine terror.”
The film was co-written and directed by John Krasinski, who also stars alongside Emily Blunt, his real-life wife.
