U-S President Donald Trump says he’ll be “terminating” the North American Free Trade Agreement as he pursues a deal with Mexico and starts negotiations with Canada.
Speaking from the Oval Office Trump told reporters he’ll be calling the emerging agreement the “United States-Mexico Trade Agreement” — marking the end of the NAFTA name.
Trump briefly threatened again to put tariffs on Canadian autos and auto parts, then said he was willing to give Canada a chance.
He said Canada can either make a separate deal with the U-S — or be folded into the arrangement just made with Mexico.
Trump says he’s going to call Prime Minister Justin Trudeau soon.
