Mixed Reviews For Canada’s Tallest Christmas Tree In Montreal

Montreal’s Christmas tree at Place des Arts was supposed to compete with New York’s famous Rockefeller Center display – but it isn’t quite living up to those grand expectations. Some have even called it ugly, and sad looking. For the record, the Rockefeller Centre’s Christmas tree is 94 feet tall this year. It’s crowned with a Swarovski crystal star (worth $100,000 – just for the star). Kind of hard to compete with that. On the other hand, Montreal’s tree stands at 70 feet tall, and it’s being billed as the tallest Christmas tree in Canada. It’s a little on the thin and wobbly looking side though. Some passerby’s have started drawing certain comparisons to the the classic holiday movie, “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” The company that installed Montreal’s Christmas tree, is standing by it. “This is a real Christmas tree, that’s what a big Christmas tree looks like,” says Philippe Pelletier. He’s the co-founder of Sapin MTL. Phillipe adds, “It’s impossible to find an 88-foot Christmas tree that is absolutely perfect from the bottom to the top.” Some Montrealer’s agree with him, saying perfection is not what the holidays should be about. Maybe it’s just as Peanuts character Linus says: “It’s not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.”
