We loved our chat with Jon Ruby of Carlington Booch Tuesday morning. Jon is the co-founder of a new company in Ottawa which produces traditionally-brewed kombucha, a fermented fizzy tea which has been around for centuries and has a ton of health benefits. Jon says Carlington Booch is no ordinary business; it’s a social enterprise that fights addiction. Among other things, the company provides employment and volunteer opportunities for people coming out of addiction treatment centres. In addition, a portion of every bottle sold goes into micro-grants for addiction projects across the city. Carlington Booch comes in three flavours (naked, ginger and root beer) and is available Saturdays at the Westboro Farmer’s Market and Thursdays at the Orleans Farmer’s Market in the Ray Friel parking lot. It’s also available at the Barrhaven Menchie’s on Strandherd Drive.
