The late Gord Downie’s hope for a better, more inclusive Canada is one of the reasons editors and broadcasters say they selected him as Canada’s Newsmaker of the Year for the second year in a row.
The Tragically Hip singer used the final months before he died of brain cancer in October to speak out in support of Indigenous people and push for reconciliation.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came in second in this year’s poll and new N-D-P Leader Jagmeet Singh finished third.
