Knock Knock Who’s There?

It’s time for the Wake Up Program! Ottawa firefighters are knocking on doors across the city this week  to ensure that smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are present and in working condition. The firefighters will visit homes from now through June 11th.  The Ontario Fire Code requires homes to have a working smoke alarm on each floor and outside each sleeping area.  Carbon monoxide alarms ad required outside sleeping areas if the home has an attached garage or a fuel-fired appliance. Homeowners who don’t have working smoke alarms may have one installed for them, or be provided with new batteries, or receive information on how to acquire one.  Visits take place between 6 and 8 pm weekdays and between 2 and 4 pm on weekends.  Firefighters will be in uniform and this is a courtesy call only. The Wake Up program began in 2005. (City of Ottawa news release)
