When I was a little girl, I didn’t have the best “family” shall we say….my Mom suffered mental health issues and I didn’t understand it and no one spoke of it back then while my Dad provided the Father/Mother role combined and being a tad of an older Dad, it wore on him so it was tough.
So I always dreamed of being swept away by my then boyfriend Dan Tanna of Vega$ fame which of course I later outgrew and it turned into more of a Father role with his real name Robert Urich and his beautiful wife Heather Menzies 😉 Then I just went on loving the two of them and their wonderful love story and their wonderful acting roles such as The Sound Of Music and Logan’s Run for Heather and Spencer For Hire and Lazarus Man for Robert. Oh who am I kidding, I love everything they’ve both done in every single role as they are both just those kind of people.
When Robert got diagnosed with a form of cancer, I was shocked….he couldn’t be sick, he was Robert Urich, my hero and fave actor of all time. I remember sending him a Get Well Card, something I can say I have never done with any actor or actress, send fan mail, not my thing but he actually sent me a note back which I have to this day, it’s something I cherish.
He later went into remission and was thrilled. Phew a good one was saved. He kept acting and he was in the midst of writing his book. Then in 2002, he died, only 3 days before my birthday, I found it hard as to me as he and Heather had always been a part of my life, it was like losing a family member. Strange as I had never met him but that is how some actors and actresses become and he was that for me.
I’ve been in touch with his wife Heather over the years, I’ve been lucky. Even luckier, I finally had a chance to talk to her and she told me their fairy tale love story and how she is remembering him with an amazing event coming up soon and it’s very close by so we can all attend it and give back to a great cause and share in their love story. You can also meet her even which for me, will be a dream come true.
Keep listening this week for Heather Menzies-Urich and how she is remembering her wonderful husband, actor Robert Urich.
