I know with Mother’s Day weekend on Sunday, Mom is the biggest star but she’s not the only star this weekend 😉
This Saturday marks International Astronomy Day around the world!!
Shopping malls, museums and libraries will play host to various astronomy clubs and groups where they will be setting up display tables, telescopes and possibly inflatable planetariums to celebrate the oldest of the allied sciences.
This will also allow people to ask the many questions about the night sky and a great opportunity to look at the Sun (safely) the Moon and Venus by day through a telescope and attend public star parties at night starting at dusk (weather permitting).
The Ottawa Centre will be setting up at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The indoor display can be accessed upon paid museum entrance fee while the outdoor events are free with no museum fees required.
Another free event is going on at Silver City in Gloucester at the Chapters parking lot from 10am to 10pm.
There will also be public viewing sessions with telescopes and you can meet local amateur astronomers and learn about the wonders of the night sky.
Displays, informative handouts, children’s activity and a free draw for a chance to win new binoculars and if you have a telescope, bring it along and take part of the fun!
