At around 1 o’clock in the morning, last Sunday morning, Melissa Lombardo had made the usual tips from her shift at Timothy’s Pub in Etobicoke. The pub was emptying out, and she thought she might even get home a little early for a change. But then, two young men entered and took a table. Melissa approached the men to take their order and they told her they were going to “Make her night”. They kept asking her to join them for a chat, which might set off alarm bells, if you ever done any waitressing, but they seemed friendly and funny enough, so Melissa agreed to sit down with them once she’d cleared all her tables. She brought their bill as well. That’s when the men asked if she’d wouldn’t mind answering a few questions. They asked about her ambitions, where she wanted to travel and what she would do if she could do anything in the world. She played along and told them about her love for music and her desire to turn that passion into a career. They followed up by asking her what her favourite Bruce Springsteen song was. Melissa, who’s 22, told them she didn’t know any. Her honest answer seemed to be what they were looking for. They added a $1,000 tip to their $31.01 cheque, and left the restaurant. I know… a little creepy… but it certainly Melissa’s day, and she’s now sharing that story with the media.
