Harry Connick Jr first came to everyone’s attention through the movie When Harry Met Sally where director Rob Reiner asked him to provide the soundtrack to “I’ll have what she’s having” 😉
Of course that was just the stepping stone to a career of many millions of albums sold worldwide, acting roles in such great movies as Memphis Belle, Copycat and the TV show Will and Grace.
I had the extreme pleasure of interviewing Harry many years ago in person when he came to town for Ottawa Jazz Festival. I can safely say, that interview will go down as one of my all time favorites.
He casually walked into my studio for what was to be a quick 5-10 minute chat. He showed up early so sat there patiently texting whom I later found out was his wife, model Jill Goodacre….major brownie points right there 🙂
I did also notice that my studio window quickly became a high traffic area for the ladies once word got out a certain someone was in the building 😉
We kicked off our interview and 25 to 30 minutes later we wrapped it up, yes a whole half hour passed as we just talked like we knew each other for years as opposed to just meeting that day, not 45 minutes earlier.
Of course we got on one of our favorite subjects, horror movies and he had just wrapped shooting Bug with Ashley Judd and it progressed from there. He signed my CD and we took a pic and he even stopped to chat with some of my co-workers on the way out because he just casually walked over by himself, no rep, no security, just little ole him.
Best part of all, I didn’t get in trouble with my boss for running way over as it was, Harry Connick Jr of course 😉
Happy Birthday to you Harry Connick Jr who turns 51 today and thank you for providing this mere radio announcer a once in a lifetime memory 🙂
