Forever Homes Required For Thousands Of Dogs After Florida Votes To End Greyhound Racing

One of the other, less publicized results of the mid-term elections was a vote to end greyhound racing in the State of Florida, meaning the sport will be banned in the State by the end of 2020. The decision puts in question the future of thousands of racing dogs. Adoption agencies on both sides of the border are already ramping up efforts to find forever homes for all of these dogs, that can make great pets.

Trained to chase lures that most often are mechanical, these racing dogs are neither vicious nor predatory. They are sociable and accustomed to being around people because they’ve been handled by trainers, veterinarians and dog walkers as well as children. Here are a couple of local links: and
