Look up, way up… or look down, if you’re lucky enough! The Goodyear Blimp is coming to Ottawa this summer in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary! To mark the occasion, the company announced a contest on its website today, offering two people the opportunity to “celebrate Canada’s 150th from up here” in the blimp. The company hasn’t announced exactly when we can expect to see the blimp over the nation’s capital, just that it would happen sometime this summer. The iconic Goodyear Blimp has been flying the skies over important sporting and cultural events ever since the 1920s. Today there are actually three of the airships that tour all over North America. The newest version of the blimp is a hybrid of the Zeppelin model LZ N07-100 with Goodyear modifications. The blimps are 75 metres long (about two-thirds of a football field, minus the endzones), nearly 20 metres at its widest points and boast a maximum speed of 117 kilometres per hour.
