The Canadian Track & Field Championships are taking place at Terry Fox Stadium on Riverside Drive, through Sunday. Sunday. Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures in the low 30’s on each day except for Friday. For the athletes, the hot weather isn’t a major problem, at least according to Mathieu Gentès, the chief operating officer for Athletics Canada. He says many of the athletes train in places like Florida and California.
On the other hand, spectators are being provided with places to fill their water bottles and misting stations to cool down, and a medical team is on site, prepared to respond to any issues.
Last year, the event drew record crowds. This year. extra seats have been brought in to accomodate all who plan to attend.
Sprinters Andre De Grasse and Aaron Brown will both be at the event along with a host of other top Canadian athletes. Events continue daily until Sunday.
