The voters have spoken. The boot has been given the boot, the wheelbarrow has been wheeled out, and the thimble got a thumbs down. More than 4.3 million voters from 146 countries weighed in on which player tokens they wanted to see in future versions of the classic board game Monopoly. There were 64 contenders in all, including a winking emoji, a hashtag, a clunky ’80s-style cellphone, and a pair of bunny slippers. The winning game pieces include a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a penguin, and a rubber ducky. The existing Scottish Terrier, battleship, race car, top hat, and cat tokens will carry on. (The cat token replaced the iron in 2013.) The closest unsuccessful candidate was the tortoise, which came up just 5,700 votes short. Monopoly debuted on March 19th, in 1935, when Parker Brothers acquired the rights to it. The original 10 tokens were an iron, purse, lantern, race car, thimble, shoe, top hat, battleship, cannon, and a rocking horse.
