Cher seems to be everywhere these days… in theaters, starring in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, on Broadway in “The Cher Show”, and all over social media, where she has increased her online presence lately. Soon, Cher may be re-entering the pop charts with the forthcoming release an album of ABBA covers called “Dancing Queen”.
Today, Cher dropped a hint of what’s to come… her take on the ABBA hit, “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!.” Madonna fans will recognize the song’s chords as those of her 2005 hit “Hung Up.” Elsewhere on the LP, Cher will be putting her own spin on ABBA’s “Waterloo,” “SOS,” and, of course, “Dancing Queen.”
It was Cher’s performance of “Fernando” in the movie “Mama Mia! Here We Go Again” which inspired her to record a entire album worth of covers. “After I did ‘Fernando,’ I thought it would really be fun to do an album of ABBA songs, so I did!,” she recently told ‘Today’ host Kathie Lee Gifford; “It’s not what you think of when you think of ABBA, ’cause I did it in a different way.”
How different? Well, you be the judge…
