The Ottawa Police Service will be conducting multiple RIDE programs throughout this week as a reminder that driving impaired by drugs or alcohol is illegal. The RIDE programs include a MEGA Ride that will involve multiple police agencies as well as MADD representatives from the surrounding area. Officers will be screening drivers for impairment.
Police remind motorists that while cannabis may be legal as of Wednesday October 17th, driving high is not. If you are charged with driving impaired by drugs, you face the same consequences as driving impaired by alcohol, which are a 90 days driver’s licence suspension, having your vehicle impounded for a week, as well as criminal charges.
