This month will see a new focus on road safety by area police forces. The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) will be close attention to red light runners and stop sign violators the month of November.
Between 2012 and 2016, there were 3759 collisions involving red light running, resulting in 1562 injuries and 4 fatalities. In that same time period, there were 3,129 collisions involving drivers who failed to stop at stop signs. These collisions resulted in 995 injuries and 3 fatalities.
The Safer Roads Ottawa Program is a leading community partnership committed to preventing or eliminating road deaths and serious injuries for all people in the City of Ottawa, through culture change, community engagement, and development of a sustainable safe transportation environment.
