LG Electronics announced its brand new lineup of home appliances today at the annual International Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, which just got underway. The big reveal from the company was all about its smart home initiative, adding artificial intelligence to all of its smart appliances. The tech is called ‘ThinQ’ and it’s all controlled by voice commands.
This basically means the appliances will have the ability to learn habits over time and communicate with each other. For example, if LG ThinQ knows that you have a gym workout on your calendar, it will prepare your washing machine with the “gym clothes” setting for when you return.
In the kitchen, the LG InstaView ThinQ refrigerator can show you weather, grocery lists, let you leave notes, and tell you what’s inside your fridge. When you select an item in your fridge (chicken, for example), you can choose a recipe directly on the fridge. When you select a recipe, LG ThinQ will automatically communicate your choice to the LG smart oven, and begin pre-heating. I suppose if you’re really not in the mood to cook, the fridge could always just order you a pizza?
