Another fatal collision on Highway 401. This one happened around 1 p.m. Thursday and involved two transport trucks and a tanker truck travelling in the westbound lanes. One driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision resulted in both lanes of the highway being closed for several hours.
In the meantime, Prescott’s mayor says two serious Highway 4-0-1 crashes this week — shows the need for action to expand the highway in the area. Brett Todd and other members of the Eastern Ontario Mayors Caucus have been working on recommendations for the provincial government
since a massive pileup near Mallorytown in March of 2017. That crash involved 30 vehicles, including a dozen transports. One person was killed and more than two dozen others were sent to hospital.Todd says truck traffic has been constantly increasing and the highway should be expanded to three lanes. (local files)
