Barry Manilow Opens Up About His Sexuality

Barry Manilow has been talking to the media this week, explained his longstanding reluctance to come out as gay, after secretly tying the knot with Garry Kief, his manager and longtime love. In 2015, the news broke that Barry and Gary had wed in secret ceremony in April of 2014, after more than 30 years together. Only now does Barry feel comfortable enough talk about it. Barry was previously married to Susan Deixler from 1964 to 1966, but he told People Magazine he kept quiet for decades in fear of letting his down fans. “I thought I would be disappointing them if they knew I was gay. So I never did anything,” he admitted. He went on to say, “When they found out that Garry and I were together, they were so happy. The reaction was so beautiful — strangers commenting, ‘Great for you!’ I’m just so grateful for it.” Look for a new Barry Manilow album on April 21st. It’ll be called “This is My Town”.
